What is the agonist/prime mover in the eccentric phase of a weighted bicep curl? Do you find this valuable?

My understanding is that during the eccentric phase the biceps is still contracting while it lengthens (if not the arm would just drop suddenly). However, since the elbow joint is extending I would say the triceps would still be considered the prime mover. Well, at least that is my initial thought, but I see this is a tricky question. The triceps does not really need to exert much force at all, since the weight would cause the joint to extend anyway, so the biceps may be doing more work than the triceps, even during the eccentric phase of the contraction. . . . my understanding of exercise physiology is very limited, so I hope someone else weighs in with their opinion. ~K Do you find this valuable?

thanks for the input! your thoughts concur exactly with mine. Can the bieps be the prime mover for elbow extension.......... probably not. the triceps are not 'responsible' for the extension - the weight is - under control from the eccentric action of the biceps.

maybe the answer is ---- the weight is the prime mover.

but I'd really like to hear what others have to say..... so please do post.
